'''Please list your proposal below.''' ==Washington DC 2018 Code4Lib Proposal==[Subject to edits until the deadline 12 AM Midnight PDT of 3/17/2017!] ===Welcome to Washington D.C!===http://freestock.ca/acrylic_waves_of_washington_dc_sjpg4982.jpg [Image by Nicolas Ramyond, 'Acrylic Waves of Washington DC'; Creative Commons License Attribution 3.0 Unported] Most people know the District of Columbia as the home of our nation's capitol, but we're also proud of being the capitol of FREE. Explore museums and galleries like the newly opened National Museum of African American History and Culture, see a performance at our National Kennedy Center, or connect with nature at our Botanical Garden, Arboretum, or National Zoo. Our food scene is also making waves. We were rated '2016 restaurant city of the year,' and in 2017, we joined New York, San Francisco and Chicago with a Michelin Guidebook. Voted the #1 transit-friendliest city and #2 most walkable city in the United States makes getting around between all of these amenities painless and safe. It's a great time to come to Washington D.C.! ===The Conference=== We're currently investigating venues for a February 2018 conference that can accommodate roughly 400-450 attendees and meet Code4Lib's technical requirements. Pre-conference workshops would take place in several of our metro-accessible DC Public Library neighborhood branches, and we're looking at throwing the opening reception at the Library of Congress. ===The Cost=== DC is a bit pricey, so we're investigating a range of alternative housing options to hotels. AirBnBs average around $80 per night in February, and there are several hostels near Capital Hill including Washington DC House and Capital View Hostel. ===Fiscal Sponsor===This proposal has been made possible by the generous cooperation of DLF/CLIR, who have agreed to be our fiscal host for the 2018 Code4Lib Conference in D.C. Thank you Bethany and the DLF/CLIR team <3 ===Organizational Committee=== * Jaime Mears - Library of Congress (Chair)* Boyhun Kim - University of Maryland, Baltimore, Health Sciences and Human Services Library* Nick Kerelchuck - DC Public Libraries* Joel Richard - Smithsonian Libraries* Ben Wallberg- University of Maryland Libraries* Kate Dohe - University of Maryland Libraries
