I'm one of the authors of Next-L Enju. I'd like to talk about the overview and structure of Next-L Enju, NDL Search and the activities of our project.
== Hydra Framework: A community based approach to developing a Digital Exhibit at Notre Dame using the Hydra Framework ==

At It was clear to us early on that the dawn scope of the American Revolutionmanaging, Ben Franklin quipped that "we must hang togetherpreserving, or surely and interacting with digital content is too much for any one institution to conquer by itself. We realized that we will hang apartneed help."
The scope of managingWe were already fairly convinced using Fedora, preservingSolr, and interacting with digital content is too much for any one institution to conquer by itselfActiveFedora were solid choices because of their strong development community and flexible robust solutions. It's time to stop working by ourselves We were also exploring Blacklight for search and start working together. Based on these principles browse for the Hydra project was born in 2008 out of the Universities of Hull, Stanford and Virginia while partnering with Fedora Commonssame reasons. The Hydra framework combines the efforts of the Blacklight, ActiveFedora, Solr, and Fedora Commons communities to provide a toolkit of reusable components to meet a diversity of content management needs.open questions were:
Through connections we made at Code4Lib2010, it was immediately clear that * What is the Hydra project's design and development philosophies complement our philosophies at best way to put the University of Notre Dame.pieces together?* How do you tackle the heterogenous content types and workflows without getting bogged down in each individual solution?
Come explore how we at Notre Dame have been welcomed into this community of developers, have adopted the Hydra Framework for our own Digital Repository efforts, and how we have utilized the common Hydra codebase to develop our own "Hydra Head" for Digital ExhibitsEnter Code4Lib2010.. We will cover Hydra features such as inline editing of metadata, generation of metadata xml, search, and browsing a collection.
The Hydra Project is actively seeking partnerships After connecting with other institutions folks from the Hydra project at Code4Lib it was immediately clear that we had many things in common:* The same architectural choices: Fedora, Solr, ActiveFedora, Blacklight* Similar design philosophies* A need to work together * Too many shared use cases to extend its efforts. Will your institution be next?ignore
More about So, we jumped on board and have adopted the [https://wikiHydra Framework for all of our Digital Repository efforts.duraspace.org/display/hydra/The+Hydra+Project Hydra Project]:
In our presentation we will cover:* Why we chose to adopt the Hydra is a multi-institutional, multi-functional, multi-purpose framework that addresses digital content management on twin fronts. As a technical framework, it provides a toolkit Framework instead of reusable components that can be combined and configured in different arrays to meet a diversity of content management needs. As a creating our own solution* Why the community framework, Hydra provides like-minded institutions with based approach is so appealing* How we were welcomed into the mechanism to combine their individual Hydra development efforts, resources community* Why we chose to create something beyond basic Blacklight search and priorities into a collective solution with breadth and depth that exceeds the capacity of any single institution facet browse* How to create, maintain or enhance on its your ownDigital Exhibit using Hydra including** Metadata management** Custom Browse and Search The Hydra Project is actively seeking partnerships with other institutions to extend its efforts. Will your institution be next?
Hydra's ultimate objective is to effectively intertwine its technical and community threads of development, producing a community-sourced, sustainable application framework that provides rich and robust repository-powered solutions as an integrated part of an overall digital content management architecture. Such solutions can meet More about the distinct needs of digital library, institutional repository, discipline repository, research, preservation and publishing workflows[https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/hydra/The+Hydra+Project Hydra Project]
