update upload instructions
There are two ways to get metadata into the Directory of Open Access Journals: 1) by hand, or 2) through the use of an XML file. ''(UPDATE 2014-01-22: DOAJ says, "Until further notice, publishers will only able to upload article metadata to us, using an XML file...Temporarily, publishers will no longer be able to submit metadata to us on an article-by-article basis. If you are unable to produce the XML file, we suggest that you wait until we have reinstated the article-by-article upload feature.")'' Before you do either method, please keep in mind the following things:
1. # We chose not to have volume numbers, just issue numbers. Issue numbers will just keep incrementing.# We decided that the "record number" for an article is the article-id that shows up in the WordPress URI. That is, they are not sequential, numbers are skipped. That's fine. So there is no 'start page', but there is a 'record number'; there is no 'end page'.# Enter the abstract and authors affiliation exactly as found in our published articles.# Enter keywords if there are any. If not, leave this blank
2. We decided that the "record number" for an article is the article==Semi-id that shows up in the WordPress URI. That is, they are not sequential, numbers are skipped. That's fine. So there is no 'start page', but there is a 'record number'; there is no 'end page'.Automated==
3To use the XML file to do data entry:# make sure the WordPress databases is up-to-date, # go to http://journal. Enter code4lib.org/issues/issue#/feed/doaj (replace # with the abstract and authors affiliation exactly current issue number) to get the necessary XML. (eg http://journal.code4lib.org/issues/issue5/feed/doaj.)# edit the XML [http://journal.code4lib.org/doaj/ so each author is in a element by themselves], # validate the XML against the Directory's schema,#* Download a copy of the DOAJ schema, http://www.doaj.org/static/doaj/doajArticles.xsd , to your computer along with the XML file you've just edited. #* Upload both files to a schema validator service such as found http://tools.decisionsoft.com/schemaValidate/ # Go to the URL listed in our published articlesthe article tracking spreadsheet (administrivia tab) and upload the fruits of your labors.
4. Enter keywords Note: if there are anysub-elements in the XML fields (e. If g., HTML tags), the document will notvalidate. Also of note, leave this blankWindows often creates character encoding that breaks with UTF-8, throwing an error on validation.
To edit by hand go More info about the feed and how to http://www.doaj.org/restricted, enter our secret username/password combination, and do customize the necessary data entry. See this [httpXML for import into DOAJ://groups.google.com/group/c4lj-articles/browse_thread/thread/ba2efed674d66d7a post] for username and password information. To use the XML file to do data entry, make sure the WordPress databases is up-to-date, go to * http://journal.code4lib.org/doaj/ to get the necessary XML, edit the XML so each author is in a element by themselves, validate the XML against the Directory's schema, go to and* http://www.doaj.org/restricted and upload the friuts of your labors.doaj?func=loadTempl&templ=uploadInfo
